Changing lives, changing churches for changing communities

Welcome to our website. The words above encapsulate our Diocesan vision. And as we are part of a world which is constantly changing the Diocesan Synod has now made a further commitment to:

Changing Lives…. for a Changing World.

The section of this website entitled "Our commitment" was adopted by the Diocesan Synod on 3 March 2007 as a statement of environmental commitment.

Supporting this are a number of pages which unpack what this means.

"Vision for the future" is a picture of a possible Eco-diocese in the year 2015.

The next pages provide some background information: outlining the scale of the problems we face, opening up some of the theological themes which can help us face these and describing the relationship between simplicity and spirituality.

Then we look at how we need to change our church life, and do things differently.

The final section describes resources which can help us in doing things differently: study courses and books, other organisations, sources of advice, but firstly, sources of material which can be helpful in our worship and prayer.

There are also examples of what churches have done, a description of the Go Zero project in Chew Magna, and 30 tips to get you started

The Diocesan Synod was not asked to approve all these papers. They are an attempt to sketch out the information and the thinking behind '…for a Changing World', and to help in the process.

The papers can be reproduced and each page is available as a pdf download. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader - a free download - to view these. Some of the pages will be regularly updated. Some are discussion starters. Not everyone will be interested in every one. Not everyone will agree with all of them.

Synod approved the first one, '…. for a Changing World.' The rest are offered as a help.
