18.  RESOURCES: ADVICE

SPECIFIC TO CHURCHES

Diocesan Advisory Committee  (DAC)

The priority for DAC advice is the mission and ministry of the church, not the maintenance of old buildings. It exists principally to advise the Chancellor of the Diocese regarding the issuing of faculties for work to be undertaken on churches. Its second role is to offer advice to parishes.

The DAC's heating adviser is informed on environmental matters. Together the DAC's architects and advisers have a wealth of expertise and years of experience in building and environmental matters.

However, the DAC responds to parish requests for advice and parish proposals. By constitution, it is not a proactive body. Requests for informal advice should be addressed to the Secretary of the DAC:

Mrs Gill Hawkings, Diocesan Registry, Market Place, Wells, BA5 2UG

01749 674747

Church Architects

PCCs can only employ architects recommended by the DAC for their kind of building.
